Attack on rule of law to attack democracy fails

Pennsylvania Republicans are absolutely terrified of fighting on a map only slightly tilted in their favor. In addition to threatening judges for making a decision based on a reading of the state constitution far more plausible than theirs, they’ve also tried to get federal judges to throw out the ruling of the state’s highest court, the utter lack of a substantial federal question notwithstanding. The latter course, at least for now, has failed:
A panel of three federal judges decided Monday to throw out a Republican challenge against the newly redrawn district map proposed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court last month.
The judges, in their released opinion, determined that they had no authority to step in and therefore decided to toss it.
Democratic elections in Pennsylvania although Republicans don’t want to compete in them — so unfair!
