London Grieving But We Want To Hear More About Trump

Late Saturday night, three men executed a coordinated attack with knives on civilians in the neighboring areas of London Bridge and Borough Market. Police arrived on the scene and closed down the area and took down the attackers within eight minutes of the first emergency call. The final death toll, not including the attackers, is at seven with 48 injured. One of the deaths was the result of police bullets as they fired more than 50 times on the three attackers, who were wearing suicide vests that turned out to be fake.

Many people were caught in the area for hours with no way of getting home because of the closures. This prompted the hashtag #SofaForLondon, where locals offered those caught in the area with no way of getting a home a place to stay for the night. Borough Market is one of my favorite places in London, a great destination for foodies with a global palate. It’s surreal to think of the place as a sight of murder and panic.
It is barely two weeks after the horrible attack on children at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester that killed 22 people. Sunday night was the big One Love Manchester benefit concert featuring Ariana Grande, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Liam Gallagher, and Robbie Williams. As in that city, London is responding with a strong support for multiculturalism. The attack was perhaps designed to disrupt upcoming elections on the 8th, but those elections are still going ahead.
We have “Ramadan Mubarak” signs up in the Sainsbury’s, and no one is bothered by it. Every year, there’s an Ashura festival where Shia Muslims hold a parade and march with signs supporting human rights from an Islamic perspective. And we all just wave to them and join them at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park to get German sausage and Kinder crepes. You think these guys are going to change that?
Just like the Manchester attack, much of American media has zeroed in on the real star of the show: Donald Trump and his stupid tweets. Numerous media outlets have published special analysis and op-eds specifically about Trump and London. Because no one wants to read about it from any other angle?

Sure, let’s take him to task. But FFS the rest of the world is TIRED of us constantly looking at world events through the lens of Donald Trump. Are British officials getting worked up over it? Nope.
