As you’ve probably heard by now, the military will open all combat roles to women effective Jan. 1, and we’re all gonna die.

Or the women will all die. Or something.

I was afraid to read any commentary on this story, and I see that I must learn to trust those nagging doubts:

As the Islamic State amped up attacks around the world, the Pentagon responded by bravely announcing that American women will now be put in direct ground combat.

Whereupon “military intelligence” secured a permanent place in the Encyclopedia of Oxymorons.

Thank you Ms. Parker. Now go – Oh, wait.

Although Carter said that women won’t likely qualify for many of the jobs and that posts will be assigned based on merit, not gender, only a fool believes this will last for long. How soon before men begin complaining that women are given special treatment? Furthermore, once women are assigned to combat, there will be no argument against drafting women.

Assertion question beg slippery slope with a pas de bourrée avec appeal to emotion. Bravo! Now go away.

I admit that I didn’t dare open Allen West’s As Obama ORDERS women in combat, look what we discovered about female Army Rangers because I’d eaten recently.

Instead, I read The Atlantic’s article about what women veterans in Congress are saying. The reporter very wisely started with a quote from Rep. Duckworth (D-Ill):

“I didn’t lose my legs in a bar fight,” said Tammy Duckworth, one of the first Army women to fly combat missions during the Iraq War.

Followed by Rep. McSally (R-Ariz.)

“It’s about damn time.”

What she said.
