The Lions are the best team in the NFL (advanced stats rate them as the best team since the 2007 Patriots at this point the season) and Donald Trump has just been elected president for a second time.

Growing up in Michigan in the 1970s and 1980s I can’t really say which of these developments would have struck me as more unlikely in the haze of my distant youth.
