This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco
This Times multimedia piece about pregnancy in the wake of Dobbs [gift link] is really, really well done. The introduction:
In the 13 states where abortion is banned outright, fear and confusion permeate every interaction around the procedure. The bans have fundamentally changed the relationships between doctors and their patients, and the medical choices women are making.
Every state that has banned abortion allows for certain exceptions — sometimes in the case of rape, incest or severe fetal abnormalities, and always in life-saving scenarios. But navigating those exceptions is anything but straightforward. Even in clear-cut cases, the specter of criminal charges hangs over every decision.
This is compelling enough but the stories captured provide rich detail that will never lose its capacity to infuriate.
