Springfield On The Front Lines
If we look at the campaign to elect Kamala Harris as a war, seriously, not just with war-adjacent words like campaign and battleground states, then we have to persist through a series of battles, some of which will go well for us and some not. What we’ve got going for us now is the momentum from Harris’s rout of Donald Trump in the debate.
But Trump and JD Vance have stoked a battle in Springfield, Ohio. They believe that the flag of “Immigrants will kill you” is a holy talisman that will urge their troops to win. But the people of Springfield are carrying a different flag that says “Capitalism and prosperity.” They have chosen to embrace immigrants. That is where the battle is now, although somewhat obscured by the smoky sex other Republicans are indulging in. North Carolina is a smaller battle, and I think we’ve got the edge there over Trump and his buddy Mark Robinson.
Trump and Vance are trying out tactics they will use if they win the election. We must stop them. They are continuing their lies and attacks on Springfield in hopes of starting a racial pogrom. Their timing is bad. They started the attacks too early in the campaign, so we can counterattack. The rumormongers who provided some of the original material are recanting. Additionally, the battle needed to be fast and seamless; the pogrom should have started by the time Vance had to admit that he was making up stories. There is some evidence that the media are backing off from the pass they’ve given him.
The governor of Ohio has defended Springfield explicitly from Trump’s and Vance’s attacks. But he says he supports them. Republicanism is quite a drug.
Springfield is still suffering from the stochastic (and maybe direct) terrorism that Trump and Vance inspired. The FBI is investigating, and people are likely to go to prison. But Trump and Vance and their army of influencers aren’t letting up.
We need to help our defenders on the front lines, the people of Springfield. This is a list of organizations you can donate to in Springfield. It has circulated on Bluesky through people I trust, but I have not checked them all out. I am also wondering about local religious organizations.
- Second Harvest Food Bank
- Rocking Horse Community Health Center
- Haitian Community Empowerment Center
- St Vincent de Paul
If Springfield can stand strong against the attacks, it will be another victory for our side that will further disorient Trump and Vance. Forty-something more days to go!
