Not cool (an open thread)
During the immediate aftermath of Nemo Sulk’s purchase of Twitter, I used to see comments here of the “What happened? He used to seem cool” variety about him.
I have no idea how people determine a complete stranger seems cool, but I don’t see comments like that any more. Gone too are the convoluted theories about why cool Elon became uncool. Possibly the fact that the perception of coolness was faulty has sunk in?
If so, tantrums like this helped sink it.
The X owner and erratic billionaire conspiracy theorist went on a rampage Thursday against the Disney chief executive, assailing Iger for the Magic Kingdom’s decision to pull advertisements from his imperiled social media platform, and declaring that Iger should be forcibly removed from his job.
Gone are the days when the public had to wait for fortuitous hot mics, anonymous sources or waiters with recorders. Thanks to social media platforms, people who are not cool at all leap from behind a protective phalanx of public relations specialists who maintain the illusion of coolth, to shriek curses, show their asses and hurl shit whenever they want. It wasn’t that long ago that a combination of zero impulse control, abuse of one or more stimulants and a white supremacy tolerant social media platform let the world know that the POTUS was awake and enraged about something at 2 a.m.
Now another white supremacist fuck owns that social media platform and uses it the same way
“He should be fired immediately,” Musk, who often uses his influential perch to bully critics and others, wrote about Iger on the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company.”
Then there’s petty shit like Tesla removing the Disney+ app from some of its models.
Over the weekend, numerous Tesla owners began to report that Disney’s streaming app, Disney+, was suspiciously missing from their vehicles.
[…]
According to a report from online electric vehicle news outlet Electrek, a source tells them that Tesla informed Disney that it was removing the Disney+ app last week. Tesla then altered its decision and said it would only remove the app from Tesla vehicles that have never used the Disney+ app before.
So if you hear anyone say “At least he’s keeping Tesla out of it,” you can and should point and laugh at them.
P.R. flacks and puppet CEOs might bring the pooper scooper and try to clean up the mess. But eventually only the equally shitty faithful will think the adored object is cool. By that time everyone else will be on to the next dud who seems cool.
