I won’t claim to fully, or even very partially, understand the issues that led to Altman’s ouster and then restoration, but he is back with a board now feat. (among other new allies) Mr. Lawrence Summers:

OpenAI said Sam Altman will return as chief executive of the artificial-intelligence startup that he co-founded, days after he was fired by the board.

The company will have a new initial board including Bret Taylor, Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo. The startup said Taylor will be chairman of the board in a post on X late Tuesday.

The board and Altman’s camp have also agreed to conduct an independent investigation into his conduct, the board’s decision to oust him last week and its aftermath, a person familiar with the matter said. OpenAI declined to comment on the investigation.

After a turbulent few days, OpenAI said in the post that the parties were “collaborating to figure out the details.” Three of the four board members involved in removing Altman on Friday won’t be part of the initial board.

A spokeswoman declined to elaborate on what other details were still under discussion.

After the announcement, Altman posted on X, “i love openai, and everything i’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together.”

“Independent” investigation yeah sure.
