The politics of glory
This is from the Republican National Committee’s Twitter account today:
The selection process seems . . . curious.
Besides wasting one of their nine precious squares on straight-up Owning the Libz, we have the following notable omissions:
Teddy Roosevelt. I mean if you’re going to go back to Lincoln you really need to throw TR in there, one would think.
Herbert Hoover. I mean what’s the rationale for a complete non-entity like Coolidge while leaving out Hoover, who was a vastly more accomplished person that Silent Cal, and also Archie Bunker’s very favorite president?
Gerald Ford. This is a glaring omission, given that every other post WWII Republican is included. I guess he counts as a RINO these days.
Which brings us to the inclusion of Richard Nixon. OK, I get it, everything is just trolling now, but Dick Nixon? I suppose if Donald Trump is your current god-king, Richard Nixon has to be characterized as the original victim of the Liberal Media, as opposed to the most corrupt president in US history prior to Trump himself.
Still it’s a bit shocking to those of us of a certain age, to the extent it’s still possible to be shocked by literally anything a Republican does or says.
