Economy continues to struggle as jobless claims hit 52-year low

Weekly claims for unemployment benefits dropped to a new multi-decade low last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.At 184,000 claims, adjusted for seasonal swings, it was the lowest level of initial claims since September 1969, when the figure stood at 182,000.

Note that the US population is 65% larger now than it was in 1969.

If you click through to the CNN story about this, it features a video where the talking heads go on and on about how “puzzling” these numbers are, given that the economy is so terrible.

Meanwhile, in what I cannot stress strongly enough is a completely unrelated story, Republicans lead Democrats in 538’s generic Congressional ballot for the 2022 election.
