For the latest podcast, I was happy to talk to Rebecca Scofield of the University of Idaho about her 2019 book Outriders: Rodeo at the Fringes of the American West. In this, we talk about the myth and appeal of rodeo generally and then move on to the different marginalized groups involved in rodeo over the years–women, prisoners, African-Americans, and gay communities. Scofield is also heavily involved in documenting contemporary gay rodeo and is in charge of the Voices of Gay Rodeo website, so check that out even if you aren’t a podcast person.
