Last week Scott, Erik, and myself had the great pleasure of interviewing Stephen Deusner about his new book, Where the Devil Don’t Stay: Traveling the South with the Drive By Truckers. As most readers of the blog will be keenly aware, we have been fans of the DBTs for a good long time, and between the lot of us have been to dozens of DBT and DBT-adjacent shows. It was an enormous pleasure to have had the opportunity read and comment on Stephen’s work before it hit the stands, and for my part I can heartily recommend the book to anyone with an interest in the DBTs, the emerging politics of the South, or the recent history of rock n’ roll.
This is the first half of a two-part interview. Here are some of the questions we asked. We’ll also roll out some additional DBT material over the rest of the week.
