I convinced myself that she would make it — perhaps I needed to. But when I got the first stand-alone “fuck” text I knew instantly what had happened. More later but a few notes in the meantime:
- Linda Greenhouse’s obituary does a good job of summing up the career of a giant.
- McConnell, of course, didn’t wait a day before announcing he would ram a nominee through, and it’s very hard to envision a scenario in which this doesn’t happen.
- Ted Cruz is actually going with “you can’t run an election with 8 Supreme Court justices,” and it will be amusing to guess who the first reporter is to take this seriously.
- Here’s the thing: expanding the Court is exactly as formally legal as ramming through a midnight appointment. Republicans are calling the game; Democrats just need to match the ante.
