Wildcat Strikes!

I want to be clear here, since this is massively misreported. What NBA players and now even MLB (!!!!) players are doing today is engaging in a wildcat strike against racial injustice. This is fundamentally different than a boycott. A boycott is someone refusing to purchase a product in order to achieve a particular goal. A strike is someone withholding their labor to achieve a particular goal. What athletes from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Seattle Mariners is definitively the latter. Moreover, since it doesn’t have approval of their unions (not that the union structure would oppose it, especially in the NBA), these are wildcat strikes.

Terminology does matter, especially in a media that attempts to water down workplace action.
