A remarkable statement from George W. Bush. Bush was of course an unmitigated disaster as a president, but he is not, unlike Donald Trump, a completely contemptible human being. This was a good thing to do, and to consider how inconceivable it is to imagine Trump ever saying — let alone believing — anything even remotely similar is a measure of our current national degradation.
