Exit from Hegemony

So, um, yeah. I’ve been pretty AWOL for… a while. Among other things, Alex Cooley and I got the reviews back from Oxford University Press for our book. Because it really needs to come out before the 2020 election, we spent a good chunk of the summer crashing on redrafting.
We managed to get it in by the end of July, even with the unexpected interruption of having to redraft our two introductory chapters for an edited volume before we could send it out for review. #protip don’t expect chapters that you haven’t touched in two years to be ready for referees.
For better or worse, Exit from Hegemony: the Unravelling of the American Global Order, is now under production, with an ETA of March 2020. (If any of our readers are connected to a university or bookstore and would be interested in a book talk let me know).
Because that’s what you have to do now, I’ve set up a website to promote Exit. The book description is a placeholder: basically the “plan of the book” from the introduction. I’ve populated almost all of the “channels,” which represent core elements of our argument. Feel free to check it out.
The idea is to keep the website updated as a resource for tracking developments and posting relevant articles. My sense is that I should probably cross-post future material as appropriate, with the caveat that some of it will be very book-promoty.
The cover image is, I’m told, not the finalized high-resolution version. Which is a good thing since it has JPEG artifacts and some masking issues.
Anyway, I’m a bit loathe to declare “I’m back!” It’s actually pretty hard to get back into the rhythm of blogging after a long break. But with editing ISQ nine months in the rearview mirror and the book under production, I’m cautiously optimistic—despite having started a new book (it’s a grant deliverable, so it’s not optional) which I’m sure I’ll bore you about in the future.
