Number One, She Was A Whoore
With great respect:
President Trump on Monday said New York-based writer E. Jean Carroll was “totally lying” when she accused him of sexually assaulting her more than two decades ago, adding that Carroll is “not my type.”
“I’ll say it with great respect: Number one, she’s not my type. Number two, it never happened. It never happened, OK?” Trump told the Hill newspaper in an interview.
His comments came hours after Carroll voiced frustration that Trump has not faced consequences from a string of previous allegations of misconduct. “With all the women it’s the same: He denies it, he turns it around, he attacks, and he threatens — and then everybody forgets it until the next woman comes along,” Carroll said during an interview on CNN. “I am sick of it. I am sick of it.”
The fact that he called her ugly before even getting to the pro forma denial — even the claim that she isn’t her type is obviously false! — demonstrates not only his misogyny but the classic authoritarian technique of telling lies so obvious all of his supporters are implicated. Anyone still willing to pretend that Trump didn’t do it either hates women as much as he does, is an abject moron, and/or is willing to pretend to be both in order to get their tax cuts/neoconfederate judges/etc. Trump knows that no matter how brazen the lie virtually every member of the Republican elite will have their “well, he did say he didn’t mean to disrespect the Bing” rationalizations at the ready; they’re all part of the same hypocrisy.
And, of course, there’s the media landscape where mainstream outlets are “excessively cautious” and conservative ones are openly willing to bury the story. so why not.
