Jason Van Dyke Found Guilty
By I’m at a conference and don’t have the time to write much about it right now, but a rare piece of good news: Jason Van Dyke, the Chicago Police Department officer who killed Laquan McDonald by shooting him 16 times, has been found guilty of second-degree murder and sixteen counts of aggravated assault.
Although this is a very small check on the impunity with which police in Chicago and elsewhere in America heap violence upon black bodies, it is significant nevertheless. Sentencing to come.
In other Chicago Police Department-related news that I’ve been too busy to write about since it happened, I am happy to report that Jon Burge is now deservedly rotting in hell.
