Musk’s Boys Are Attacking the GAO
They started Friday, and who knows what they did over the weekend.
The Government Accountability Office is a support to Congress, and as such should be off limits to Musk’s depredations. But extending his reach is what he and his organization are about. Lots of good data at GAO!
GAO has several functions, including evaluating government agencies and actions. I’ve interacted with them occasionally. They have looked at the NNSA’s ability to produce plutonium pits for nuclear weapons, for example, and the effectiveness of the JCPOA back in the days when we still had it. Over the past couple of years, they’ve produced a number of reports on nuclear power and the government’s role in it.
So of course it’s time to destroy it. But the GAO is resisting. This may be a story this week. Keep your eyes open.
I was asked on Bluesky if anyone is keeping a list of where DOGE has infiltrated. I’m not, but kind of wish I were. ProPublica has a list of DOGE personnel that have infiltrated various agencies. What is particularly impressive is the number of agencies just one 25-year-old can manage, but that’s what coding will do for you! Anyhow, if you know of such a list, please share it in the comments.
