United States Institute of Peace Resists The Musk Boys

The United States Institute of Peace is not a government organization, nor is its building owned or leased by the government. Nonetheless, it is one of Musk’s targets. His incel squad was rebuffed last week, but this week they gained entrance. USIP put up a good fight.
The Washington Post has a story (gift link) on the attack of the kind I’ve wanted to see: An accounting of the steps by both sides. Donald Trump may have, or may have seized, the power to appoint USIP’s board of directors and fired all except those who agree with him. The remaining three (ex-officio) directors then provided the pretext of wanting to see the organization’s books. Trump/Musk installed an acting president, Kenneth Jackson, who has served that role in other organizations Musk has attacked. More detail in the link.
Since USIP is an independent organization, the sequence of actions may be different from the approach to government agencies.
USIP officials resisted the attack until removed by DC police. They have sued the Trump administration to stop Musk.
Hopefully the suit will clarify the roles of the FBI, the DC police, the private security firm employed by USIP, and whatever other law enforcement organizations were involved.
The fact that Kenneth Jackson is being reused as a placeholder in several organizations suggests that Musk doesn’t have a lot of people to use in this way. Being stretched too thin is a potential weakness of his operation.
Finally, does this mean that Musk can attack any independent institution that receives government funding?
