Schumer says Democrats united on not signing off on House funding bill

We’ll see, but even with our feckless media it’s hard to miss the fact that the party in control of all three branches of government is by definition the responsible party for any government shutdown.

I crack myself up sometimes.

The federal government edged closer to a shutdown on Wednesday after Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic leader, said the stopgap bill to fund the government for six months did not have enough support to reach a vote in the Senate. He said Democrats in the chamber were united behind a 30-day bill to negotiate a bipartisan solution. The government’s funding was set to run out on Friday, but there was little time to find another path: House Republicans purposefully left town after passing the six-month funding bill.

I’m coming around to the view that the faster we have a genuine economic and constitutional crisis, the sooner we can move toward using those things to restore some minimal level of sanity to our legal and economic arrangements in this country.
