Trump-fluffing owner of the Los Angeles Times dishonestly edits an op-ed to make it appear pro-RFK Jr.
The author has the ugly details:
I've published ~60 OpEds and am familiar with the back-and-forth of the editing processes and editorial control over final copy, headline, and subhead. The problem in this case is not the cuts alone, which I expected might be requested. It's a combination of factors, including…— Eric Reinhart (@_Eric_Reinhart) February 1, 2025
2) These cuts in combination with editor's choice of headline and cover image of RFK that suggests support for RFK that directly contravenes my own arguments and intended effects/interpretation among readers, which were well known to the editors from my original title and text.— Eric Reinhart (@_Eric_Reinhart) February 1, 2025
4) Pat Soon-Shiong, the billionaire LA Times owner, has been extremely vocal about his advocacy for RFK Jr's confirmation and for Trump, publicly posting my OpEd as if it represents an endorsement of RFK. Pat has well-known conflicts of interest involved in his support for RFK Jr pic.twitter.com/bL0RHe6Qz0— Eric Reinhart (@_Eric_Reinhart) February 1, 2025
Soon-Shiong is so desperate for kids to die of preventable diseases that he also commissioned anti-anti-Trump third-stringer Lee Fang to write pro-RFK propaganda which sadly probably reflects his actual beliefs:
Lol. Quite a byline. https://t.co/eS9SiKwsTm pic.twitter.com/LEYUc8IN99— Centrism Fan Acct (@Wilson__Valdez) January 31, 2025
I can understand why Soon-Shiong felt his crusade to make polio great again needed a source with some actual credibility, but it says a lot that he had to commit journalistic fraud because “credible source” and “supports RFK Jr/ to head HHS” are irreconcilable concepts.
