Over the weekend, Democratic members of Congress met with constituents. Chuck Schumer was in Brooklyn, and the Oregon congressional delegation was in several cities. There were probably more. This gives them more to work with. Now they can say “My constituents demand that Elon Musk be removed from government buildings.” That’s more powerful than saying it for themselves.

And we’re starting to see more public action directed toward that removal.

Congressman @beyer.house.gov will be going to USAID today with colleagues to shine a light on what is happening there, I think others will join us. Figuring out details now and will share but flagging now for press and public in the area— Aaron Fritschner (@fritschner.bsky.social) 2025-02-03T14:25:42.461Z

Schumer and others plan a press conference this afternoon. I’m hoping that his aides looked at the feedback on his posts over the weekend.

The Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America released a video statement in response to Musk’s attack.

Giving access to SSNs, other data on government employees to non-employees like Musk is a violation of 5 USC 552a, and carries with it a penalty of $1000 per person whose data was accessed. We are building a case. Govt employees who want to participate should contact me directly— Mark Lemley (@marklemley.bsky.social) 2025-02-03T13:18:00.717Z

Everyone was taken by surprise by the Musk side of the coup, but it looks like things are coming together. No one of these things will be decisive. We have to keep up the pressure.
