Hubie!

Not the top sports story of the day, but the great Hubie Brown is broadcasting his last NBA game today. He’s 91 years old. In recent years, he’s still sounded great. I have a friend who played AAU ball in high school and Brown was one of the coaches and he told me that Brown was just the nicest guy who simply loves basketball. I know it’s been rough for Hubie this year–he lost his wife and a son died. That’s brutal. I am sure that he knows it is time for him to retire. But I am happy for him to get to do this one last game, the Sixers-Bucks game today at 2 eastern. I will miss his expert commentary and clear way of teaching the game through broadcasting.

The thing is though is that back in the early 90s, when the Blazers were good, there was this old man who always did their national games. His name was Hubie Brown. He kept confusing the names of the Blazers players. How many times did he say Kevin Porter or Terry Duckworth? It annoyed me so much! And that was over 30 years ago.

This is a good time for an open NBA thread too, which I haven’t gotten around to this season.
