To the Archives—Mitch the No Vote Version

I took a bit of crap from commenters for noting that Mitch McConnell hates Donald Trump so much that he would vote against some of Trump’s worst nominees. Of course, I was correct and those commenters were wrong when Mitch provided the third Republican vote against Hegseth. I strongly doubt this will the last nominee McConnell votes against here too, especially with Tulsi and RFK coming up.

What’s interesting is that Mitch McConnell holds so little sway over Senate Republicans now that there was not a fourth Republican to join he and Collins and Murkowski to kill the Hegseth nomination. He’s old and now just a regular senator and no one cares. Leadership like Thune and Cornyn probably don’t like the Hegseth nomination but they aren’t going to buck Markwayne and the Boys. Old Man Grassley loves all this shit. Lindsey is Lindsey. Tillis is scared of being primaried. This is the Republican Party now–something so far to the right that Mitch McConnell serves as the centrist. And that’s not great.
