Trump digital trading card

Peter Thiel seems to have given us a concise listing of what billionaire Silicon Valley investors think. It’s likely to be driving Mark Zuckerberg as well. Thiel mentions Eric Weinstein, who manages Thiel Capital and pushes the “intellectual dark web,” along with his fellow billionaire Marc Andreesen. Co-President Elon Musk has mentioned some of what’s in Thiel’s op-ed, as have others, under the tutelage of the sage Marcus Moldbug, aka Curtis Yarvin.

It’s a closed system, and they all talk to each other, cloistered behind the piles of quarters they sometimes fill a room with to swim in. But they are all geniuses, so they tell us.

Every sentence in Thiel’s op-ed starts at bizarre, and many go to incomprehensible. The conceit of the piece is that when truth-teller Trump comes into office, the secrets of the “ancien regime” will be revealed. That warehouse at the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be opened, and the cognoscenti will find confirmation!

That conceit allows Thiel to use the “I’m just asking questions” gambit, because if he put forth the various claims, he would need much, much more than 800 words, and because he would sound crazy. Commentary at Bluesky seems to indicate he may not have avoided that last.

So let’s transpose his questions into claims.

  • The custodians of that warehouse have been keeping the truth from us about many things, including Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide.
  • We still do not have THE REAL STORY of how John F. Kennedy died.
  • COVID-19 was developed in a Chinese biological warfare laboratory with US money.
  • The US pushed a Brazilian judge to ban Musk’s X. (added in update)
  • The US was complicit in Australia’s recent legislation requiring age verification for social media users, the beginning of the end of internet anonymity. (added in update)
  • The Biden administration “debanked” crypto entrepreneurs.
  • The leak of Trump’s tax records shows that privacy depends on politics.
  • Section 702 is used to conduct warrantless searches of Americans’ communications.
  • Scientific and technological progress has slowed down over the last 50 years.
  • Real estate prices and “exploding” public debt are the fault of the Biden administration.
  • America is no longer great.

Zuckerberg’s obsession with “free speech” seems to be related to, or perhaps identical to, the paranoid thread running through Thiel’s op-ed: that the US government is suppressing free speech about these issues to push cover stories. This argument is not fleshed out.

But THE INTERNET KNOWS! And Trump will reveal it!
