More last second pardons/clemency

Biden granted clemency to Leonard Peltier with 20 minutes left his presidency, and while I’m not knowledgable about that case what little I know about it seems to indicate this was an act of basic justice.
In a really disturbing development, a few minutes later he did this:
President Biden pardoned five members of his family in his last minutes in office, saying in a statement that he did so not because they did anything wrong but because he feared political attacks from incoming President Donald J. Trump.
“My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics,” he said in his last statement as president. “Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end.”
Mr. Biden’s action pardoned James B. Biden, his brother; Sara Jones Biden, James’s wife; Valerie Biden Owens, Mr. Biden’s sister; John T. Owens, Ms. Owens’s husband; and Francis W. Biden, Mr. Biden’s brother.
I mean the potential crimes here consist of being relatives of the political opponent of the new president of the United States.
This, even more than the pardons granted to the politicians who investigated Trump’s coup attempt, as well as that granted to Anthony Fauci for the crime of being a scientist, puts an exclamation mark on Trump’s degeneracy and corruption, as well as that of the political process that made him president again.
Of course it inevitably feeds deranged right wing media narratives about the Biden crime family, but that’s the world we’re now in.
