Freelance Mole In The Militias

John Williams decided, on his own, to become a mole in militia organizations. He worked with a ProPublica reporter for two years to produce this story. He rose to the top of one organization and was trusted by the leaders of others. Now he’s on the run. ProPublica has the documents he acquired and recordings of his meetings with those leaders.
On the eve of Donald Trump’s inauguration as President, this should unsettle those organizations and make them less effective brownshirts for his ambitions.
Williams was a member of and advised the Oath Keepers and American Patriots Three Percent, or AP3. The usual response of organizations to learning of this kind of mole is to heighten scrutiny of their members, often to a divisive degree. That would be a benefit to the country.
Williams believes that members of those organizations may try to kill him now that the story has been published. I’m guessing that the reporter has acquired extra protection too.
The article describes the involvement of law enforcement officers and local government officials in the militias. I hope ProPublica or other news organizations (Hello! Anyone out there?) will follow up on the disorder this is likely to cause in the militias.
