All of the Names

Joe Biden has announced the names of the fifth and sixth ships in the Ford (CVN-78) class of supercarriers:
President Joe Biden has announced the names of the following two CVN-78 class aircraft carriers. To some surprise, the fifth ship of the “Ford” class will be the USS William Jefferson Clinton, and the sixth ship will be the USS George Walker Bush.
While these names are more or less in accord with recent Navy practice on naming aircraft carriers, both are likely to spark controversy with the next administration.
For those keeping score at home:
- USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78)
- USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79)
- USS Dorie Miller (CVN-80)
- USS Enterprise (CVN-81)
- USS William J. Clinton (CVN-82)
- USS George W. Bush (CVN-83)
And yes, there will be two aircraft carriers named “George Bush” in the fleet as soon as CVN-83 enters service, to the confusion of approximately everyone.
