Talking Democratic Institutional Failure

I had a long conversation with Matthew Sheffield about the failure of Democratic institutions. We went pretty far-ranging in this long conversation. If you don’t know Sheffield, he’s a real interesting guy, a former Republican operative who now is on the side of progressive change. There’s a long Prospect piece about him recently that Rick Perlstein wrote. The broader point here is that. yes, we have to consider the broader context of the election around inflation and such, but given that the Republican Party is a fascist party now, we have to do the work to make sure that these people never get power today and we are totally failing to do that work because Democratic leaders can’t get their heads around the fact that we are in different times. So we talk about the constant stream of emails and texts to raise money instead of doing actual organizing and things such as this. Anyway, check it out. And I hope that people actually watch at least part of it instead of just going into their usual talking points immediately.
