Sanewashing RFK Jr. requires ignoring what he actually believes and what Republicans actually believe

We’ve talked quite a bit about credulous reporters/pundits and even some Democratic elected officials falling for the oldest trick in the anti-vaxx playbook — using their inevitable anodyne statements about healthy eating and BIG PHARMA to project rational views onto someone who doesn’t even have rational views on these anodyne topics. One really obvious way you can tell that RFK Jr. is not going to result in a healthy eating revolution is what happened the last time a prominent public person tried to promote healthy lifestyles:

What we’re actually going to get from RFK Jr. is an attack on miraculous vaccines and pushing people to consume products of Big Pharma that he personally likes despite their lack of medical value (horse paste, supplements, etc.) Anybody who pretends otherwise is a serious part of the problem.

Speaking of which, Mitch McConnell is sad that the oysters have been eaten:

Could McConnell have persuaded 16 other Republican senators to convict Trump for 1/6 had he made a serious effort to do it? I don’t know, and likely the odds were against it. But we do know that — having to know that his tenure as conference leader was coming to an end, and that he was never going to be majority leader again — he didn’t even try. He owns Trump (and RFK Jr.) lock. stock and barrel. And it’s also a little hard to take for someone whose most important initiative in his final four years as majority leader was a nearly successful effort to take healthcare away from tens of millions of people to pay for an upper-class tax cut. RFK Jr. is a logical culmination of the Republican contempt for the idea that public health is an important issue, and McConnell is as guilty of this as anyone.
