Predictions from the CJR
The Columbia Journalism Review offers its predictions of something no one is looking forward to.
It’s Election Day, which can only mean one thing: bad pre-election takes are on the way out, and bad post-election takes are nearly upon us. We predict fifteen such takes that, if history is any guide, you might hear sleep-deprived reporters and pundits echo on cable news or tap out on X tomorrow—or whenever the result is finally called—depending on whether Kamala Harris or Donald Trump wins and any procedural shenanigans.
Sleep-deprived is much nicer than cliche-bound or lazy.
I think the list is solid, but can’t resist adding a couple of my own.
- If V.P. Harris wins: “Does Harris’ unorthodox path to the presidency call into question her ability to lead?”
- If the ambulatory garbage collection wins: “After several months of labor, women failed to deliver a win for Harris. Is abortion’s importance on the wane?“
