Western North Carolina

The first Farley in my family tree to have been born in Western North Carolina was William Hamilton Farley, born 1811 in Burke and died 1898 in Swain. His father, John Farley, moved to the region from western Virginia at some point before 1805. Four more generations of Farley, including myself, have been born and sometimes died in those hills. A few years back I found the (resited) grave of William Hamilton Farley and met a co-descendent who still lives in the area. It’s fair to say, thus, that I have family roots in Western North Carolina.

You might imagine that I’m more than a bit irritated by all of this.

Elon is just lying here. There’s no truth content to it whatsoever; he has determined to use his media empire to turn a natural disaster into a Trump campaign rally, and a huge number of right wing influencers have taken up the cause. It does no good to explain the logistics of the situation, or that huge numbers of private flights are guaranteed to cause collisions in impossible-to-reach areas, or that FEMA is doing its job; Elon knows all of this, and a great many of his followers know it as well. He bought X in order to produce this kind of propaganda, and it’s quite likely killing people in Western North Carolina right now because folks are believing it. Trump’s America, yes, but Trump is abetted by folks like Elon who have not the faintest regard for truth or for human life.
