Possible major hurricane heading toward Tampa Bay

Plenty of time for things to shift in a better direction, but right now Tampa Bay is smack in the center of the probability cone. My friend Steve the meterologist:

Probably don’t need to tell people here that a major hurricane eye right on Tampa Bay is a nightmare scenario, so let’s hope that something else happens. It’s three days out. There’s a wide cone, and an uncertain intensity forecast. Probably something else will happen. You can see the center of the cone though.

The good news, such as it is, is that Milton is supposed to remain a physically small storm. When a major hurricane is small, there’s usually a narrow (tens of miles) swath of destruction, and somewhat lesser damage outside of that for a few more tens of miles. Helene by contrast was enormous, with hundreds of miles of surge damage on the coast, plus then the mountain rain.

Outside of the wind and surge, Milton might produce 4-10″ of rain over most of the Florida peninsula this week.

The Florida home insurance crisis isn’t getting better this year.

Meanwhile the entire right wing has worked itself into a frenzy about how all the money that was supposed to go to FEMA is being sent to Haitians to help them turn Fido and Toonces into Santarian stew.

Also FEMA is part of the bigger (((conspiracy))). Laura Loomer is tweeting that people in the disaster zones to “resist” FEMA workers. Loomer is one of Trump’s closest advisors.
