Phil Lesh, RIP

Phil Lesh was the Grateful Dead’s bassist and probably the best pure musician in the band. He also was deeply committed to exploring other sonic worlds and used his significant resources to support a lot of difficult new music in the classical world. He didn’t sing a lot, but “Box of Rain” is one of the Dead’s best songs. Obviously, the Dead are as polarizing as any band in rock history, but I always loved his bass and his promotion of music by amazing people doing work that did not receive much exposure. RIP.
