I need to run downstairs to watch my Oregon Ducks, but around here, why not just discuss one of the great movies that presumably all have seen. That’s High Noon. There’s so much to say about the politics of the film, including John Wayne’s concern that his buddy Coop was being duped by the commies to do an American-hating film. But I’ll just mention Katy Jurado’s astounding work as Helen Ramirez, the probably one-time prostitute who has made a small economic fortune and likes or at least tolerates her white law enforcement officer lovers, at one time Coop and then that little punk Lloyd Bridges. Early Lee Van Cleef work too as one of the minor thugs.
