Preachers like to blame sin for natural disasters. Pat Robertson notably stated that Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans as a punishment for the sins of that city’s residents, by which of course he meant Black people. If you actually believe this kind of thing, what is the theological explanation for a hurricane hitting the west coast of Florida every three weeks this year?
