College Football Week 3 Thread
I can’t say this is an open thread because if I do, asshole commenters will talk about politics even though they know the rules…..You’d have to be a terrible person to do that.
Week 3 is often a bad one in college football and this year is no different. To their credit, the SEC does schedule some conference matchups at least, while most of college football schedules one last patsy. But here are the 10 best games this week, using the Athletic’s rankings of all teams in college football. Listing is by broadcast time.
- #50 UNLV at #36 Kansas, Friday. Writing this on Thursday, it feels like this is the kind of game UNLV might have a shot in. I am sure if I had bet I would be wrong. (Turns out I was right!)
- #25 Arizona at #16 Kansas State, Friday. Something will have happened in this game by the time this comes up. Arizona looked great against New Mexico in week one and a lot less good in week two. Kansas State is evidently a university that exists. (Welp, KSU took Arizona behind the woodshed in a game that looked great for them and horrible for the rest of Arizona’s season.)
- #15 LSU at #41 South Carolina, 12, ABC. Yep, this is where GameDay is this week. You know it’s a bullshit week if that is the case. South Carolina did look dominant against Kentucky. Wouldn’t surprise me to see an upset at home here.
- #7 Alabama at #49 Wisconsin, 12, Fox. I gotta say, when this was scheduled, this looked like gold. Wisconsin looks more like pyrite these days. But Bama looked very vulnerable against South Florida. That said, I have trouble seeing the Tide losing this game to a weak bunch of Sconnies.
- #34 Memphis at #55 Florida State. 12, ESPN. FUCK YOU #FSUTwitter. I hope you all burn in Hell. Not only do you live in northern Florida, but you root for a very shitty team. I pick Memphis to drive a stake in the Seminoles’ season.
- #19 Boston College at #`10 Missouri, 12:45, SEC Network. Yep, the best game of the week is on SEC. That’s how bad this week of college football is. If you believe in BC, let me sell you my Doug Flutie Pro Football HOF stickers….
- #45 Tulane at #14 Oklahoma, 3:30, ESPN. By the metrics I use here, this is the 4th best game of the week. I’d recommend spending time with your family before watching this.
- #48 Florida at #33 Texas A&M, 3:30, ABC. This is a classic battle between two programs who are massively overrated every year, but Florida really seems like a tire fire, so I’m going with the Aggies, even if College Station is one of the worst places on the planet.
- #39 Central Florida at #51 TCU, 7:30 Fox. This could be pretty fun. In a decent week, it isn’t a top 10 game, but these seems like pretty even matched team and why not have fun in week 3 with rando games.
- #1 Georgia at #54 Kentucky, 7:30, ABC. Boy howdy, Kentucky shit a big dump of bluegrass last week against South Carolina. Expect a Georgia crushing.
Oregon at Oregon State is not one of the top 10 games by this metric, but my Ducks have looked poor the first two games, led by Dillon Gabriel who suddenly holds onto the ball too long and misses open receivers for TDs. No idea what is going on here, but I think the Beavers win against an overrated, if talented, Ducks team. Gross, I want to die.
In any case, if you are a college football fan but want to skip a week, this is the one.
