The best defense is a good offense
It’s a relief to see this kind of response to Trump finally admitting that he would vote to maintain Florida’s near-total ban on abortion:

Both the forceful response to Trump’s support for banning abortion and the broader effort in which abortion bans are embedded are good. What Trump “really thinks” about abortion is entirely irrelevant. If re-elected he will sign any abortion ban Congress puts on his desk and appoint anti-abortion fanatics to the judicial and executive branches. That’s all that has ever mattered.
And it’s always worth noting that abortion bans in themselves reduce access to maternal care, especially in rural areas:
It is not a coincindence that another rural Iowa county is shutting down L&D after the Iowa Supreme Court upheld what amounts to a total abortion ban in the state. Abortion bans hurt maternal care. And Iowa is the worst in the nation for OBs per capita and it's only getting worse https://t.co/7vOXbS0aXP— Lyz Lenz (@lyzl) August 30, 2024
Among other things, it turns out doctors tend to be reluctant to practice in states where they’re in constant fear of being arrested for practicing medicine.
