Teflon Don

There’s no way around this point now, and I have long been amazed that people still believe in American institutions enough to think otherwise, but Donald Trump will never ever face real legal consequences for his actions. This was obvious from the moment he reached the presidency. Obviously, Joe Biden’s single greatest appointment error–Merrick Garland–only exacerbated this problem. But then that’s the point. Liberals believe in institutions, however broken they are, and will make appointments that serve the myth of the functioning institution more than they will adopting Republican tactics that actually work. Meanwhile, Republicans just don’t care and will rig the system.
The only thing that actually matters in politics is power. I wish people would realize that. It’s power and it’s nothing else. A huge part of the Trump appeal to people is the idea that he laughs at power and he always wins. And he just won again.
