Ismail Haniyeh assassinated

I’m obviously not going to mourn this asshole per se, but this still has some potentially unsettling implications:

Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political wing, has been killed in Iran, Hamas announced, describing the death as an assassination. He was killed in Tehran after attending the inauguration of Iran’s new president, the group said in a statement. Hamas blamed Israel for the death, but it was unclear how Haniyeh was killed. The Israel Defense Forces declined to comment.

I will leave it to people with more relevant expertise than I to sort out the geopolitical implications, why Haniyeh would leave Qatar, etc.
