I assumed there would be a big bump in online donations after Biden’s announcement and endorsement today, but I didn’t necessarily expect this:

Democrats greeted President Biden’s departure from the presidential race with an avalanche of cash, donating more than $50 million online on Sunday and making it the single biggest day for online Democratic contributions since the 2020 election — with hours to go.

The huge amount is based on a New York Times analysis of the online ticker of contributions maintained by ActBlue, the leading site processing Democratic donations.

With Mr. Biden gone and Vice President Kamala Harris building momentum to claim the nomination, Democrats went online to contribute at a startling pace. Donations spiked from an average of less than $200,000 per hour in the hours before Mr. Biden quit to nearly $11.5 million in a single hour later on Sunday, the analysis shows.

As of 10 p.m., Sunday was ActBlue’s third biggest day for online donations in its history.

The money itself is very important, with Trump about to start seriously spending in battleground states backed up by his vampire VC asshole buddies. But the outpouring of grassroots enthusiasm is represents is even more so. And helps to ensure that there isn’t going to be a serious challenger (and whether he runs or not, Joe Manchin is the antithesis of ‘serious’) to Harris, let alone a BLITZ PRIMARY or Golden Bachelor convention. Read ’em and weep!

In related news, this is a running endorsement list. There’s a lot of work to go, but I there’s a lot of reason for hope too.
