Horizon?
Cheerful fucking day here at LGM.
Anyway, who here is planning to watch Horizon? I have not yet developed the fortitude necessary to tackling the Yellowstone Cinematic Universe beyond watching the first episode of the original series, but I like Westerns and there’s every reason to believe that I’d enjoy Yellowstone. I’m even a strong booster of Josh Brolin’s Outer Range, which is one hell of a weird show and is often described as “Yellowstone but with a time traveling hole.”
I have long liked Costner, but he’s a tough artist to love. I am a huge fan of Fandango, No Way Out, Bull Durham, the Untouchables, and even Field of Dreams, but it’s been a minute and a lot of water has passed under the bridge. I suspect that Dances With Wolves probably deserves a second look with the benefit of distance, but it’s hard to describe Costner’s work as anything but uneven. In general I’d be disinclined to invest in something as long and arduous as Horizon (first of four long movies!) for an artist’s whose work I’m not completely enthused by. But to give Costner due credit, he uses his platform and his resources to swing big, and it sounds as if Horizon will be a very big swing.
Twenty-five years ago I don’t think I’d be asking this question; I’d just go to the movie. But with the movie prices and the fact I’ve invested in a large TV and the streaming and what not… I generally don’t go to a movie in the theaters unless I very strongly feel that I’ll enjoy it. I dunno about Horizon.
Thoughts?
