Speaking of Stonehenge, a couple of moron climate activists spray painted it with orange paint this week. Yes I know it’s terribly gauche to complain that the kids are Doing Protest Wrong, but that’s Doing Protest Wrong, Idiots.

Also speaking of Stonehenge, let’s talk a little This is Spinal Tap, on the 40th anniversary of the greatest of mockumentaries.

Some things I picked up on just recently (it’s a rich text that rewards repeated interrogations, like Ulysses or the 2021 Michigan-Ohio State game):

I had never realized that Marty Di Bergi is a parody of Martin Scorsese.

Anjelica Huston is the woman who presents the Stonehenge monolith to Ian Faith.

Russ Kunkel is exploding drummer Eric “Stumpy Joe” Childs.

OK, here are some parodic references just off the top of my head:

Jimmy Page’s guitar solo in The Song Remains the Same.

The song where Derek Smalls gets trapped in the pod is mid-1970s Yes at its most self-indulgent.

Stonehenge is . . . help me out here. Jethro Tull? I feel I’m missing some obvious prog rock reference.

Big Bottom is Queen’s Fat-Bottomed Girls.

A kind of Pierre Menard Author of the Quixote moment is when they stand reverentially before Elvis’s grave, as this scene is a parody of a scene from the U2 documentary Rattle and Hum, released four years after the boys Tapped Into America.

I know I’m missing lots of references, but that’s where the LGM Nerd Army comes in.
