Mavs-OKC tonight — will the young Thunder recover or is it too much too soon? Fun series.
Admittedly, my primary attention will be elsewhere. It is a truism that the NBA playoffs get better every round and the NHL playoffs get worse, but this year the NHL’s first round was lousy. But the all-chalk first round has meant a much better second round, with one true classic. Two western Canadian teams, every game so far decided by a goal, one a fringe playoff contender before the season up 3-2 coming off its best game of the series, the favorite with the best player to come into the league since Mario Lemieux and his first-ballot-Hall-of-Fame sidekick, both of whom have been even better in the postseason despite the team’s lack of post-season success. Most intriguingly, the Oilers are going back to the goaltender who has the second-worst postseason save percentage since 1990 (a decision I should say I have no problem with — I would never criticize a coach for going with body of work over relatively small playoff samples.) Should be very fun.
Personal to the Vancouver Canucks, since I may never have another chance to say this: FINISH THE JOB.
