Giving workers something more than attacks on critical race theory and banning lunch breaks
In contrast to Republicans laying siege to even modest worker protections, the Biden administration has announced two policy changes that provide major material benefits to workers. First, the FTC has banned non-compete clauses over Republican opposition:
And the two Republican commissioners voted against banning non-competes, which offers up an opportunity for any Dem candidate to ask their opponents why they believe an employer should be able to effectively trap people who are working for them.— Helaine Olen (@helaineolen) April 23, 2024
Non-compete clauses are completely indefensible, and this is terrific news.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor has closed the “avoid overtime pay by making low-paid workers salaried” loophole:
A big f'ing deal as they say. Americans newly covered by overtime protections either get more pay for working long hours or more of their own time back. https://t.co/JSXFM0mPGt— Bryce Covert (@brycecovert) April 23, 2024
This is the most pro-labor administration since FDR and it’s not remotely close.
