Trump would be much worse on Israel/Palestine
This thread arguing that even by Donald the Dove projection standards the idea that Trump would be harder on the Israeli government than Biden is insane is entirely correct:
Around Minute 33 here, the TAP gang talks themselves into the idea that Trump would be better than Biden for Palestine because he wouldn’t let himself get “cucked” by Bibi.
This is I think a really dangerous misreading of the situation. https://t.co/FrJXq8odsZ— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) March 2, 2024
Replacing Biden with Trump would stop the US from being “cucked” — by Israel sometims ignoring its pleas for more restraint — in the same sense that replacing Jim Caldwell with Matt Patricia “solves” your problem of having a good regular season team that just misses or disappoints in the playoffs.
I understand that a lot of people are really angry at Biden’s Gaza policy.
They would like it to be the case that their expressive interest in damaging Biden’s reelection prospects are also serving the objective interests of Palestinians, but it isn’t true.— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) March 2, 2024
You don’t need to like Biden or to vote for him or to try to help him win — it’s a free country, you should do what you want — but don’t delude yourself about where Trump stands on this issue, he doesn’t even bother to lie about it.— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) March 2, 2024
I’ve seen a few people trying to convince themselves of Donald the Dove bullshit, and I’ve also seen a couple of people recycle the “a more right-wing government is actually better because it will lead to more [ineffectual] opposition” bullshit. But frankly in my experience people who want Biden to lose as punishment over Gaza don’t even deny that Trump would be worse, it’s just that Biden losing would make them feel better. If you see voting as an exercise in atomistic consumer expression probably nothing I can say can convince you otherwise, but we should be clear that Trump getting re-elected will be worse for Palestinians on any time horizon (in addition to the countless other ways in which things will get worse.)
