Take Over the School Boards

Moms for Liberty completely overplayed their hand and, really, who could guess that people involved in moral panics also have weird sexual lives that blow up in their faces. Never seen that before!

But really, since the 1950s, the school board has been the critical piece of government for far-right forces. Going back to the rise of the New Right in such places as Orange County and the Houston and Dallas suburbs, right-wing activists taking over the local school board has been a great way to get their agenda moved ahead. What we are seeing now is at least some serious resistance from those actually involved in schools and that’s great, though hard for a bunch of people who would rather just teach their classes or run their school library. But I did want to state that it should be fairly easy for liberals to take over school boards as well and turn out the small number of people needed to win these elections. It’s just that it has never really been a priority for liberals and this is a huge missed opportunity. Now personally, I think a lot of it is that plenty of liberal parents are in fact pretty conservative when it comes to their kid’s education, as we have seen in comments here over and over and over again. So right-wing points hit home when we are talking about Maddie or Connor. But there is potential here and we should take advantage of it.
