Somebody is on their troll game:

I haven’t read any of the game threads, so I’m sorry if this has already been discussed in detail, but I’m wondering about whether the percentage move in OT with the new rules is to take the ball first or kick off.

The argument for kicking off is:

(1) When you get the ball back you know exactly what you need to do. This is obviously a big edge all other things being equal, i.e., the advantage for the home team in baseball has by getting to bat last in the deciding inning.

(2) You can actually win the game on the first possession with a defensive score. This is a minor factor but it’s there.

The argument for taking the ball first is: If the two teams are still tied after one possession each, you’re the team with the first opportunity to win the game in sudden death while on offense. In other words, if the game ends up going three possessions, you won because you got two of the three.

My snap reaction is that argument for taking the ball first under these rules is stronger, but that’s purely impressionistic.
