Genocide

South Africa’s charges that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza has reached the International Court of Justice, which at least means the world is taking it seriously. The reality is that Israel is going to have friends in Russia and China pretty soon, but in the U.S., it is just going to be far-right Republicans. AIPAC is going to become an adjunct of the Republican Party in the next 5-10 years as the older generation of pro-Israel Democrats such as Biden and Schumer and Pelosi disappear from the scene. Whether it is genocide or not is something that I think is worth discussing. I tend toward a narrower definition of the word, so I would say that this is not genocide, even if it might be ethnic cleansing. But those aren’t exactly the same things. However, I am open to hearing the case.
